Eating live??

Krystal19_85 Oct 22, 2004 07:43 AM

OK So we finally got our little one to eat (she is supposidly 4-5 months old, but 50 grams!) Last week she ate a pinkie and a fuzzy with only a 5 minute struggle to kill it (the fuzzy, we missed watching the pinkie). This week we got her all they had (REALLY young pinkies) and she had a strugle with killing them, after constricting and readjusting and constricting more for about 15 minutes she just gave up and swallowed it alive! She did the same with the second one, but she didn't bother to struggle as long, probably 2 mintues. I know there small so they can't harm her much, but it just worried me. I wanted to switch her to hoppers, but not if she won't eat PK or FT and she eats them alive! What should I do? She needs to beef up. See how small she is?

Some of mine occasionally do that. I think they're smart enough to know when they can just overpower something and swallow it, or when they need it dead to start eating. I've never had a problem.

What you are giving her is too small which is why she can't kill it properly, IMHO.

I agree with both previous posts.

If i try feeding to small of a rat(35g crawler)to one of my males(700g)then eats eats it alive.
He must think it is just easier than trying to kill the thing.

Try hopper sized mice,i bet she does the job.

That photo is a scream. A 1 pack-a-day python. You should really get her switched over to the nicotine patch, I hear its more healthy. I hope her name is Marlboro.
Well,....enough of that. I agree with the previous posts. Hopper size would be better. Have you ever tried to wrapped your finger around a worm? It needs something larger to grab onto. Don't worry she'll be alright. Say goodnight to Marlboro for me and if you got em smoke em, LMAO.

LOL Thanks for the compliments and advice everyone! I will try that.

P.S. her name is Buttercup. (Ever seen Master of Desguise?)

BUTTERCUP!?!?!
Oh my god the estrogen has flooded the room.
What kind of name is that for a royal python?.........BBBBBUTTTTTTERCCCCUP.......I can hardly say it. You really need to rethink this whole thing.
I think Marlboro is so much more appropriate and regal.
But it's YOUR snake and you have a right to call it WHATEVER you want; Petunia, Hyacinth, Marshmellow, etc.
Just kidding, LOL.
Say goodnight to Marlboro for me and smoke em if you got em.
LMAO.........BBBBBUTTTTTTERCCCCUP............LMAO.
