Need assistance with a baby cornsnake

gzyv15a Oct 22, 2004 09:12 AM

I recently purchased a sunglow motley cornsnake from my local pet store. The snake is a few months old. It's been three weeks since it's eaten anything. I've tried isolating the snake with a pinky mouse, but the snake doesn't seem interested. I'm not sure what to do at this point. Is it common for a young snake to go without food for so long?

I also noticed a small amount of discharge in the tank every so often and i'm not sure if it's regurgitated or feces?

If it is a small amount, it is probably urine or feces. What does it look like? Has the snake eaten for you at all yet? There are lots of posts on here with suggestions about feeding tricks - so do a search for non-feeders. The most common tricks are: Put the snake in a deli cup with a brained pinky (split the head of the pink and squeeze some gu out), try a live pink, try scenting a pink with an anole, or just feed an anole or anole parts. With each of the tricks, only try feeding about once every 5-7 days. You don't want to stress the snake out. Also - when you feed, make sure that the snake is in a small container in a quiet dark place. He needs to feel safe before he'll eat. Putting a towelover the container works really well.

You can also try buying a can of chicken broth from the store and dipping the pink in that. That was the only way i could get one of my baby corns to eat
