Breeding Questions

fatjay Oct 22, 2004 10:28 AM

i just got my first corn snake about a month ago. I've researched corn snake, gotten advise from a friend, and went from there. My snake is eating well and seems to be doing great. I'm pretty excited about her. Now i'm hooked on snakes. Anyways, my snake is a female Anery Motley Corn and my friend has a male Creamcicle corn. Next spring, we're thinking about breeding the 2 snakes.
My questions:
How old should my female be to safely breed?
What will the babys look like?
How desirable are these traits? ex: is one "better" than the other?
(creamcicle or anery motley)

My friend has breed corns before and we both understand what we're getting ourselves into. He only lives a few miles aways so this is gonna be a group effort.

If your snakes aren't Het for anything, you will get Rootbeers Het Anery Het Motley Het Amel. (Rootbeer is the name a lot of people use to describe normal looking cornsnakes, but which have emoryi or creamsicle blood in it).

A creamsicle is an intergrade between a cornsnake and an Emory's ratsnake. Some people don't like them because they aren't pure corn, other's love them regardless.

Generally recommended size for a female is 3 or more feet long and 300 or more grams. You can breed smaller adults but you risk egg-binding if the female is too small to pass the eggs.

thanks for your input. my female is about 2.5 feet long, but my friends male is only a few months old. so, its gonna be awhile before we can breed them anyways. Thanks again.
