Missing Toenails??

pdm Oct 22, 2004 12:21 PM

I noticed the other day that my Beardie is missing 2 toenails on his front left foot. Do they grow back? its not just that the toenail is short, I mean there is no longer a sign of a toe nail on those two toes at all.

Thanks,

Paul

If he ripped out the root no it won't grow back. If the root is still their then it should. The main thing now is to find out how they got removed and try to correct the problem.

ok. Thanks.

I have paper towels as his substrate as its easiet to clean & my floor is hardwood with no carpet so when I let him out I dont think it could happen then & he gets his baths in the bathtub so I am at a loss. The only thing I can think of is when he is setting on me & I detach him from my shirt(i do it slowly & take each foot at a time when his claws get in my shirt) but could I have unknowingly
not detached them good enough & pulled too fast & pulled them out myself. He never reacted to that though & I assume it would be quite painful if it had happened that way. But I will be extra careful & watchful from here on out. I hope the root is still there & they are able to grow back.

Hmmm, don't know. I would think you would have noticed if it would have happend taking him off of you. The main 2 things that I know can do it are carpet fibers and screen but since you don't have either I'm not sure. Kind of keep an eye on him and around the house and maybe you'll notice something. Loss of a fingernail won't do any long term damage health wise but it's nice if it can be avoided.

are you sure these toenails were there to begin with? It is possible that the toenails were bitten off or torn off before you bought the dragon and you only recently noticed. How long have you had the dragon?
