Kane Heat Mats & Boas

g.gartner Oct 22, 2004 03:00 PM

I'm thinking of using the large Kane heat mats for my gravid surinam redtails. Has anyone used these and what do you think of them? I only need them to provide a basking spot of 90-95 degrees, I'm not using them to heat the entire cage.

Thanks in advance

gabriel

Kanes are fantastic heat pads. They aren't thin, flexible heat mats with a zip cord. They are rigid, thick (the heated area is around 1/2" thick) with a round 3-wire cord and 3-prong plug. If you want to use one under a cage, you must elevate the cage as needed. Their heat is evenly distributed over the area, and they don't waste energy heating underneath. However, you must use a dimmer or controller to make sure the temps are boa-friendly.

You can wash them with water and sponge or hose them off with no worries.

Assorted rosy boas, some annulata. That's it.
