I have an 8-year old female iguana (she was neutered as soon as she came into her season) who has always been in excellent health and has been a very sweet gentle creature. Last night, when I was taking her out of her cage for dinner, she attacked me, biting my finger, hissing, and lashing out, repeatedly trying to bite me which she has never ever done before. It was like she went berserk. This morning when I brought her out, she was a little calmer but still trying to bite and still hissing. She never even flared at me before. She didn't eat but kept going over to the spot where she likes to hang out. When I'd try to touch her, she'd start up again. Several times, talking softly and smoothly to her, she did allow me to pet her head and she shut both eyes.
She had fallen off the kitchen counter the night before but she usually jumps off once an evening and seemed fine--ran out of the room when the dogs barked. I checked her over carefully this morning and nothing seems broken. I have a vet appt. Monday afternoon but was wondering if anyone had a clue why a normally docile sweet creature would turn into Satan's nightmare after 8 years?
