Male or Female

xcrashx21 Oct 22, 2004 06:47 PM

I am going to hopefully be picking out a bearded dragon in November and am just curious is it better to get a male or female? Is there any difference in their demeanor or is it just based on personality? Thanks.

As far as demeaner goes, they're about the same males tend to go through a stage at about puberty that girls don't where they catch an attitude but it passes quickly. Females will lay eggs when they get old enough whether or not you have a male with them and you have to deal with that on them.

Well males are usually a little more animated than females. They grow faster and in general have less complicated reproductive systems. You can also get a nice male for a lot cheaper than a nice female. Females are usually a little more laid back once they reach adulthood. Females can have reproductive issues like becoming eggbound. Also females are more epensive and more sought after. If you are just buying one BD I would definitely buy a male.

Thanks for your help I just know with some lizards the males can be a little more territorial and aggressive and have not read about this with the bds. Just looking for some experienced knowledge. Thanks again.

Yes males are territorial in the Pogona vitticeps. As well as being aggressive towards other male dragons. You cannot house two males together. Two females can be done and a male and a female I would not suggest. If you have anymore questions feel free to email me.
