Nose Rub,...Dawgawnit!!!

thesnakeman Oct 22, 2004 07:27 PM

Just got this little guy this A.M. Iv'e been checking on him about every hour. He's been cruising around quite a bit. The last time I checked,... I noticed this. Don't have a clue how or why he did it. Temp. is 77 degrees. I know they don't like it hot, so I turned on the a.c. to drop the temp. a couple degrees. Can you believe it, this time of year?! He's in a nice Neodesha 4x2x2 with slideing doors. Any advice? I have some of that "New Skin" liquid bandage, but I won't do anything just yet. At least not till I hear from you guys. Thanks,
T.

tony, just got your message.neosporin or the liquid bandage are both fine to use. it's nothing serious. he'll shed it out quickly anyway.....his last sheds were 9/1 and 9/27. see what a solid rat diet can do? lol! good luck and call or write anytime. he'll settle down once he gets a bellyfull.......dan

Great looking snake. i agree in that neosporin is all that is necessary; it'll disappear - keep the cage clean so it doesn't get infected which i am sure you will. you might consider putting a large piece of pvc pipe into the cage; some indigos enjoy the close confines of a tubular/domed shaped hide area (or cut it in half so that it lies flat on the floor; that's even better) or, the snake could just be adjusting to its new environment as it sounds like you haven't had him for too long. we also had someone make me some ceramic hide areas that are round with a large hole on top; my indigos absolutely love them and its amazing how much snake can squeeze into a small area.

Yes that's a Uni, and thanks. I agree he is a beauty!

Thanks for the advice guys. I will apply some neosporin. I just cleaned his cage. As for the hide, he has one made out of a plastic shoe box, but my other Drys have the 6" PVC tunnels which I re-configure a couple times a week to maintain their intrest. They spend a lot of time checking them out. THey also have the standard plastic hide boxes. I just haven't been to the lumber yard to get some pipe and fittings for the new kid yet. Will do though. Thanks a bunch to all,
T.

Nice looking snake! How is the temprement on Unicolor? I just saw someone selling Black tails at the Hamburg Show. The Adult he was handling seemed very low key and mellow. Are Unicolors like that? While I am mostly impressed by the solid black of Easterns and some of the very serious guys' Rubidus, I have to admit that that solid gold color is very striking.
Thanks. And good luck with the new animal. Bob.

thesnakeman Oct 26, 2004 02:30 PM

Well, this is my first one, he is currently blue eyed, so I can't really testify to temperment. But he seems very mellow, just like an eastern. And I am told by the breeder that they are just like easterns in that respect. Thanks to all for the compliments, but the attaboys really belong to Dan Felice, the breeder who produced him. I hope to stert a colony, and begin produceing some as well. Later,
T.

By B.Scialabba? After checking out your post I took a look at other Unicolors over there. Wow! The picture of the pair he has there look as if they were spray painted mettalic gold! I hope they do have an attitude like an Eastern. Please keep us up to date on how it goes and what kind of personality your snake has. And thanks.

my adult males are as laid back as kingsnakes. i even let them out on the floor to eat/explore when i'm cleaning their cages w/ no problem. they are very confident, calm animals. the females however can be somewhat restless when handled but would never bite. wc's are also quite easy to acclimate........
