Brumation Question

slw33 Oct 22, 2004 07:48 PM

A question...

I have 2 females, actually sisters, living together in the same enclosure. The oldest one (she's about a year and a half old) looks like she's going into brumation. the younger one (about a month younger) is showing no signs that she'll brumate this year, She's as active and as hungry as she usually is. My question is this: Can I keep them both in the same enclosure, even if one is brumating?

I should add that the one who's brumating has climbed into a rather large cave structure I built into the cage. I could hang a piece of cloth or something over the entrance so its a bit darker for her. The cage is also pretty big: its about 7.5-8 feet long, 3.5 feet wide and 3 feet tall.

Any suggestions are welcome...

First off let me say WOW, sounds like a nice cage you should post a pic of it. Normally I would say separate them but with the conditions you describe as long as the cave is on the cool end and with draping it I'd go ahead and give it a shot. If it doesn't work out you can always separate them later.

Actually I can only take partial credit for the cage. Its a cage a friend built for his boa, that I cleaned, bleached, repainted, and actually had to make smaller to fit into the room its in now. I built in some cage furniture type of stuff (the cave, couple of basking platforms), and built a differnt opening for it. The girls (as I call the sisters) absolutely love the big space.
