breeding season is a pain!

bloodroses19 Oct 23, 2004 01:30 AM

ok last year we got an ig named ellanore. she kind of looks like a boy but cant really tell. well now im pretty sure she is a he. she diddnt go through breeding season last year so i thought she was a she. but thinking about it she was pretty sick with mbd when i got her so that might be why. well today he attacked me. i went to put his food dish in the cage and he jumped on me and tried to bite my face off. he has never acted like this. infact he is the sweetest ig i have ever known. the only one ive ever met that loves hugs. im so sad. hope it dont last long.

Yup sounds like breeding season behavior to me, well at least from what i have read about it. Your iggy might still be a girl too, my understanding is the females get agressive during this time too. I have a male and this is our first breeding season also. So far ozzy hasnt really been agressive, just extremely active and on a hunger strike. OH and he flashed his hempenies(sp?) at me so that confirmed ozzy is definatly all boy, lol. The only advice i have for you is be patient and from everything i have read our iggys will return to there "normal" selves in a few months. Im just keeping my fingers crossed that ozzy wont get too agressive, but im really on guard right now when handling him just in case. Oh i did make ozzy one of those "luv socks" i read about on someones site. You just take a old sock and fill it with rice, and sew up the end. Now ozzy hasnt been really umm taking his agression out on it, but he sure thinks it makes a comfy place to lay, and it finally puts to use those old socks that have no mates, lol. Take care Tami

Hi,

This is Bud's third breeding season, and he is just now taking an interest in the stuffed socks I gave him. Thank god for them, though... when he is wandering around trying to bite things, I throw one in his path, and he "mates" with it and is usually a lot calmer after that. I did just what you said about the spare socks, and stuffed one sock with a bunch of others.

This may be the time to sacrifice all your green socks... Bud now owns my favorite winter socks, because they are green and he will try to bite or mate with them even if they are on my feet! : )
