Rack or Tub size for adults?

anson Oct 23, 2004 09:18 AM

Another housing question.
I have seen plans for racks and tubs for BP and now that I got this large female the recommended or available tub size for racks seems really small for her to live in!
What size tub should I use for an adult female.
She is bigger than I expected her to be. She is over 4 ft long and is really heavy. I still need to weigh her.
What size tub would be humane to use as caging for her or should I get an actual cage.
I was leaning twoards racks because they are space saving and I can heat the whole thing but after seeing her size maybe stacking style cages would work better.

Looks to me from pic that she should weight aprox. 1500-1800 grams. Just so you know most breeders housing that size ball in a rack use tubs that are about 5-6" in depth, 18" in width, and 25-33" in length. The cage you choose depends on what your plans are for the snake. If its a pet type situation and you would like to see her then use a decent size aqarium just as long as you give her proper hide spots for security and temp. diff. from one side of the enclosure to the other. If you are looking to maximize space then go with a breeder rack. You can start off small with just a level or two and work your way up from there. Theres a rack system my company came out with just recently that is adjustable. You can mix and match small, medium, and large tubs all in the same rack. This allows you to "build as you go" so your not stuck with a rack that only houses a certain size reptile.
Hope this info has helped....if you need more info on the racks the web site is www.trueimagereptiles.com
Good luck!

I have 5ft females 2k grams in 41q sterilites. Most breeders use the 41q's.
