Help! I think her water broke!

viperbitex Oct 23, 2004 05:05 PM

Hi! I know that this is the BRB boa page, but no one in the boa forum would answer. This morning my 4 1/2 month gravid columbian red tail discharged a thick yellow and clear liquid, and held her tail at about an 85 degree angle, until I ran over and I think freaked her out. She hasn't eaten in the 4 1/2 months, and her urin has never been like that. Now, about 8 hours later she is coiled herself in a ball. I checked her vent and it is very swollen, which I am told is a sign that she should be in labor. I am terrified that I freaked her out by watching and now she is holding the babies inside of her, or that when she has them that they will get smothered by having no where to go because of her position. Can anyone give me some advise!! Should I take her to a vet asap?!

Many times when boas discharge nasty colored fluids and you suspect they are gravid it is a sign of them having slugs. She definately won't deliver in a coiled position but if she gets slug bound it could kill her. I think it would certainly be worth a visit to the vet especially with what appears to be your lack of experience in this area. Good luck.
