Maybe time for a vet visit for Issey

moko Oct 23, 2004 06:09 PM

I am so freaked. this evening after handling Issey I noticed his back right leg was bent at the knee in a funny way. I had noticed last week that his right knee seemed slightly swollen, round almost.Different from his other knee.I didn't think too much of it. Now he does not seem to have use of the lower part of this leg! Is this MBS or MBD? I have given him minerall and reptivite on his food, but like I said before he only eats what I put in his mouth. This lizard is just not thriving. I can now see his hip bones. I need input from experienced lizard keepers. Help!

oh i am so sorry about issey. i think issey definitely needs to go to the vet. i cannot say for sure if it is MBD but even if it is, the vet will need to give you a super-duper calcium supplement so you would have to go regardless. however there is something really wrong with issey's leg and i wish i knew more to tell you what to do.
as i asked amanda earlier, is everything in their cage set up correct, good basking temps, basking bulbs and UVB bulbs etc? keep us updated on his condition and know that i am thinking about the little booger

Yes, I would have him looked at. I do know some swelling in the limbs of lizards, can also be due to GOUT ! Either way, what your seeing is serious and should be seen by a Vet.

And the weight problem just adds more concern, probably should be treated for worms.

I sure hope he will be fine. We will all be pulling for him to get well quick!

How long has it been since you changed your UVB light?

I've only had him since the beginning of September and he looked healthly when he came home.I haven't change the UVB bulb and it was new when I got Issey. We as going to the vet on Monday. Fortunately there is a vet in Raleigh that specializes in reptiles. Thanks for the good thoughts.
