Frozen Fuzzy mice

Ppk Jun 29, 2003 07:38 AM

Today I'm going to start feeding my monitor frozen fuzzy mice. I used to feed crickets but now I can see he is getting to be a little big to eat them. At ll.5 inches (w/tail) I think its safe to say lets start with the frozen fuzzies. My local petstore sells a pack of six for $12. I would like to know since I never really fed my monitor mice, do I wait for the frozen mouse to become unfrozen then proceed to feed (dumb question really)? Also, do I feed him one fuzzy mice a day for 6 days a week? I'm going to start feeding him fuzzies regularly each day till he gets to be about 3 feet. Any suggestions?

I'm not attacking you, but I'm really trying to get my point across here, I hope you get it, and understand.

Please, listen carefully...
let the monitor tell YOU what it will and won't eat, and how much. YOU don't decide ANYthing, ok? The reason being, you are not a monitor.
Rather than think you know better than it, what it needs, let it tell you. And it will.

If it is still eating crickets, by all means, let it eat them. In nature, even large monitors, will still eat bugs.
You can offer the rodents, and if it eats them, good, if it doesn't, good then too. Do not give a flying %$^& what other people's monitors eat, let yours tell you what it needs.
Yours may stop eating crickets, fine, you can still offer them .
Yours may not eat the rodents, fine, you can still try once in a while. It will most likely eventually eat them.

As for eating one a day,..??? You don't know if that is enough or not, and neither does anybody on the net. We are all just people. But your monitor knows.
He will let you know. Go by how hungry he acts. If he attacks the food, offer more. If he has to be coaxed to eat it, he is not hungry (or shy). Try again the next day or so.

The answer is in your animal, not a computer screen.

My monitor has eaten rodents before. I have given him only 2 pinky mice since I've had him. I find it cruel kind of but I never knew their is frozen prekilled. If he eats it, which I think he will, I will continue to feed that. If he doesnt than I wont. I only feed my monitor enough for him to eat, I dont go over or under.

Even up here in expensive Canada, adults are around a dollar, once you figure in shipping.
Buy in bulk! Don't worry about keeping french fries next to the mice, its all good. D.

for both of my savanna's I found that nude mice were one of the best things to feed them. They are difficult to find normally, and you have to pay a rediculious amount to have them shipped to you. I went to the reptile expo in white planes and picked up 200 nude mice for $50. My guys loved to eat them and they digested them alot quicker that mice with furr. If you can find them they are deffinitly worth a try. The 2 bags i got contained mice that greatly varied in size, so you can start with the smaller ones and work your way up.
