With the season winding down, it's fun to share ideas and enthusiasm with fellow hobbyists.
Best regards

Most of the time that are a little too "black and white" if you know what I mean.
Both of you posted very interesting and entertaining polls.
So
Thank You

is that you definitely get a wide range of keeper types. Look at the varying interests with respect to non-ratsnakes and boids. I haven't kept boids in 25 years but I find it interesting to hear what other people like and keep. And I've never kept any hots but some of them are truly beautiful. So by association I learn about these other snakes and learn something about the keepers too. It's fun as long as the questions and answers are friendly and well-intentioned. After all beauty (and value) are in the eye of the beholder. If I've learned anything about the herper community is that it runs the gamut of age, income and education levels, backgrounds, religions, ethnicities and nationalities. So as long as everyone plays nice and concentrates on the thing we have in common (liking snakes) it can be a lot of fun. As soon as it embarks on politics, religion, conservation or even sports(!) it can head downhill really fast.

To summarize; informative, non-competitive, friendly conversation is fun and interesting. Negative, over-competitive, unfriendly, elitist, us-against-them, hidden-agenda, overly-didactic posting is destructive and actually pretty boring. After all this isn't rocket science it's a hobby.

It was an interesting set of questions, John, but the season winding down depends on where you're at and what kind of snakes you're interested in. TC.

and ratsnake owners are getting pretty close to putting the kids to bed. Of course if you've got helena, radiata, subradiata or any of the other tropical species then there isn't a break. And even I have some hatchlings and yearlings that I will feed over the winter. But I've gotta confess, as much as I like working with my ratsnakes I definitely enjoy having the winter off. But to each his own. I'm guessing I couldn't convince Green Tree Pythons to enjoy a Massachusetts winter in my unheated basement.

I'm going to make a post on "brumation", and start a new topic at the top. I hope you want to join in. When our domestic duties are winding down, I believe it's time to start finding important topics to occupy our time on the forums. More later...TC.

I mean it's not like you have much opportunity to discuss herp technique at work. Unless you luck out and find a fellow snake nut there. I only wish I had been able to go to Daytona this year or last and meet some of the folks I've shared threads with. Oh well. There's always next year.
