Two of my '04 female Easterns took UNSCENTED rodents today...

JungleGems Oct 23, 2004 07:19 PM

...for the very first time! These, like all my babies, have both been on tuna scented rodents from the time I received them and these two have always been my best eaters. I was feeding my Tricolor today when I decided to thaw out two extra pinkies and offer them to these girls unscented just for kicks and they took them without any coersion. I have about fifteen other babies that I am going to try this with later tonight. I may have to decrease the scent gradually for some, but eventually I hope to get all the babies to this point. Wish me luck!

Glad to hear it! The thought process I always go through when I finally get them to eat unscented, is what have I been wasting my time on? It seems as though they attack their unscented food just as eagerly as scented that its as if they didn't need the scent at all!

Ha, well I'm still trying to get my juvenile male to take a rodent of any kind. All he'll eat are spadefoots.

They certainly do! My first thought was, "Now, was that so bad?!" I tried the unscented on the remaining babies last night and a majority of them followed suit. I am finally reaping the benefits of all the time and effort I have put into these little guys... although I now have the smell of tuna permanently embedded into my fingers, ha ha!
