Question about the stick-on heat pads

HerperHelmz Oct 23, 2004 10:16 PM

Ok, I stuck one of those heat pads on a 10 gallon glass tank last year in around January. Now, I want to rip it off, can I? I know I can easily peel it off, but will it ruin the glass or anything on the tank? I'm assuming the heat pad will still work after ripped off?? Any comments/opinions on this would be great, but I need to know soon, I have a turtle that is cold.

If you're careful pulling it off it should still work. Test it though... I learned my lesson and never stick the pads to the tank, just set the tank over it.

pulling the UTH off a tank won't hurt the tank but it will hurt the heater. I did that once and even though I pulled it off VERY CAREFULLY is still didn't heat well or stick.
Be carefull about just setting a tank on the UTH. There needs to be some air flow under the tank also. That is what those little jell raised thingies are for. So excess heat can escape so as not to cause a fire.

As Lora said, test the pad once removed with care. I leave the adhesive backing on the pads and attach with aluminum foil tape on one end of the pad's edge or on each edge depending on how much heat I want in the tank/cage. That way removal and reattaching is easy. When you remove your pad you can cover the remaining sticky surface on the pad with aluminum foil.
