I have a customer that is interested in some of my animals. He lives in New York, but I thought I heard that NY recently outlawed reptiles? Wouldn't that make it illegal for me to ship to NY?
Thanks,
Jeff

Someone who actually cares about laws and takes the time to do some research before shipping. I commend you for that.
NY hasn't outlawed reptiles just yet, but there are limitations to what can be had in certain areas. NYC has a whole bunch of different laws governing reptiles, as compared to the rest of the state. Keep in mind also, that each City/County may have it's own seperate ordinances governing snakes.
If you want, e-mail me with some info on where this person lives, I can tell you if it's legal to keep them there or not, and where to have it shipped. I don't need the persons name or address, just a city/town of where they are.
Hope this helps, if you need more info, let me know.

What are you shipping? Maybe we can help you determine what is legal by the list. North American box turtles are illegal, unless you have a permit, and I've heard it's hard to get a permit unless you're doing rehab of some kind, or helping someone with rehab.
NY City has banned iguanas and some other reptiles, but I don't have a full list.

I'm not shipping anything rare, just a couple san diego gopher snakes, possibly a baby hog island boa and taiwan beauty snakes. The customer lives in Rochester, NY Thanks for all the help guys.

Under Chapter 30 Article 11 Section 30-25, it states that only venomous reptiles, rear-fanged included, are illegal to possess inside the city of Rochester. It doesn't say anything about constrictors or others except that it is illegal to have them loose in a public setting.
So it seems as though you are safe to ship, and that person is safe to possess, as long as there are no venomous involved.
