problem shed

nogard Oct 24, 2004 01:32 AM

hello, My ball is almost a year old and has had all good sheds, lately, my friend gave me his female ball to breed to my older male(different ball) and they both came down with mites, while I had them in bare enclosures the youngest went into shed and his head neck and eyes have yet to shed I put him in a rubbermaid tub for a day and no success. will I have to manually remove the eye caps? I can take off the rest, but am a little nervous about the eyes, should I do it myself or take him to the vet? he is a het axanthic from vpi so I would pay if you thought it was better

thanks

Put the snake in a pillow case that's lightly damp and put back into enclosure to keep warm. The snake will move around in the pillow case and rub off most of the remaining shed. But....... you gotta do something about those mites, dude.

And the Dude abides.

IMO answered the shed question perfectly. As for the mites, search the forum. If you can find Provent-A-Mite (probably have to order it online unless you have a good herp petshop nearby) it works well. Other than that, there are some lice treatments (for humans) that can be used if you do it properly. Search the forum.

Wet pillowcase as suggested above.
