How often should I dust crickets?

bumble Oct 24, 2004 08:16 AM

I've recently started to dust Lujans's crickets with calcium powder, as well as gut-loading them. I know this isn't strictly necessary, but I just want to be on the safe side. How often do other BD owners dust their crickets, and how much calcium do you use. Is it possible to give a BD too much calcium?

From what I understand its very had to overdose a dragon on these calcium products. It is however, necessary to dust your crickets. The amount of times you dust per week depends on the size. There is a chart on beautifuldragons.com that tells hwo manytimes/size ratio.

Also if you didn't know you can get a "cricket shaker" at PetsMArt that holds the crickets in the top and powder in the bottom. You turn it over and the powder goes to the top and coats the crix then the remaining powder falls to the bottom for the next usage.

Robert

For young dragons I dust their greens every day and dust their crickets 1 time per day (I throw crickets in 2-3 times per day). For adults I don't use crickets so I just dust only their greens and feed them superworms that aren't dusted at all.

I use about a 3:2 ratio of Repcal to Herptivite.
