Mystery lizard

Maybe some of you experienced gecko breeders can give me a clue...

This morning I was tending to my house plants. I found the tiny corpse of what I believe is a Mediteranean gecko. I know these animals are often found among greenhouse plants, but my newest one has been here for 15 months! Is it possible that an egg could survive for that long in the soil and hatch?? I live in the Texas panhandle, so I don't see how it could have come in from outdoors. I am thoroughly baffled. Poor little guy, he must have starved, since my apartment is practically bug free.
