Ozzy still not eating.........

Iguanamom Oct 24, 2004 11:55 AM

Ok so now the hunger strike has been going on about a month maybe. Im pretty sure this is from him being in breeding season. He will only take a few bites of food a day. He is very active, on a constant quest to escape his enclosure. He is still drinking some water and im misting him several times a day, so i dont think dehydration is a issue. Im concerned how long he can go on like this. Ozzy was a great eater before he went in season. Now he isnt. But the stinker cant resist fruit, which has been the main thing he has ate over the last month. I even caught him picking out the fruit. And i tried only giving him his salad which is mustards, collards, dandelion, butternut squash, parsnip and green bean, no way he wouldnt touch it. Its fruit or nothing with ozzy. So i was wondering what problems can too much fruit cause for him, i mean i know it should make up only a very small portion of there diet. I am feeding "good fruits" like cantalope, blueberries and mango. These are his favorites. And how long will this last? I think i read a few months, but gosh i hope not. Dont know if this iguanamom can last that long , lol. He is stressing me out. But i guess i shouldnt complain too much, at least he still seems pretty sweet. Hasnt gotten agressive yet. Thanks ahead for any input you have. Tami

Although it's not a fix-it-all....Forest LOVES fruit too & LOVES shredded sweet potaoes. They're good for them, sweet to them (?), anyway, I shred them up so they look like shredded cheese & mix a lot in his escarole.

I peel them & run them through my little $10 walmart food chopper/shredder. Ahem, it also looks very cool piled on top the greens. Igs love color!

Maybe if enough sweet potato in just one green, you could at least get a couple veggies in him?

Dunno if it'll help but my boy loves it. Good luck!

How old is Ozzy? If he is young, then maybe he's actually a she. This happened to me, and I found out my male was a female when she laid eggs (without a male) after displaying the symptoms you have described. Please let me know if this may be the case and I will give you as much advise as I can.

Thanks for the response. Ozzy is about 3 years old and im positive ozzy is a boy because he flashed me his hempeines(sp?) recently. Boy was i surprised to see that, lol. I was pretty sure he was a boy due to his femoral pores, large jowls, etc. but the flashing incident confirmed it. Just hope this hunger strike stops soon. thanks again for your response. Tami
