gravid female???

ntothed89 Oct 24, 2004 01:35 PM

i have 1 male and 2 female RES. the one female that bred this spring has laid a clutch for the former owner. the other female that i put in didn't bred with the male. anyway, the female that bred has (what i think is eggs) inside because the other female doesn't have all the lumps that the other one does. is she gravid? i know it isn't bone. i put her in some soil and other matter to lay her eggs if she has any. how long should i keep her in there?

If you are feeling lumps up in her abdomen when you pull her hind legs out, that sounds like eggs to me. Be careful and don't push too hard on them or they will break in her. Do you mean you have her outside in some soil or inside in a tub of soil? Some females just won't lay unless they are allowed outside in dirt. Anyway, I'd put her in dirt daily for a number of hours. Particularly so she's out very late in the afternoon. She needs 6-8 inches of dirt. Good luck.
