Whilst these can be a major pain, you can get rid of them.

A year or so ago I had a problem with these in my blue tongue and bearded dragon vivs. I brought in a new blue tongue from a reptile shop, something I very rarely do, as I normally deal only with breeders.....

Don't bother with the proprietary mite remedies that you can get from reptile shops/suppliers. I wasted a few weeks using these, meanwhile, the mites just increased in numbers. I found that whilst the mites bothered the blue tongues, they REALLY bothered the beardies. They gather in and around their wrinkly eyelids. Once I knew what I was doing I got shot of them really quickly.

First you need some Frontline, which is an insecticide only obtainable (at least in the UK) from vets. Then clean out your viv. Throw all substrates away and clean any furniture off the best you can. I washed it and the viv in disinfectant. Once dry, I wiped the viv out with the frontline on a damp cloth, and the mites died over the course of the next two or three days, never to return. Job done.

Mark.
