Creamsicle/Emory/Rootbeer confusion

jojobear Oct 24, 2004 03:05 PM

I think I have this right; you breed emory x amel corn then breed the babies; emory/amel corn hybrid x emory/amel corn hybrid =creamsicle. Questions does the corn have to be amel? Where does the root beer corn come into all of this? What would happen if I crossed an amel corn x albino emory? Are amel and albino emory the same (I know amel corns were called albinos years ago)? Somebody commented that amel emorys were expensive; how expensive are they? I am getting one (albino) in a group of snakes and thought I got a terrific deal on the group. O.K. one more question and then I through with questions; I know motley is a pattern mutation is it a simple recessive or is it more complicated? Thanks in advance for all the help.

well, lets see.

a rootbeer is a normal guttata/emoryi mix
a creamsicle is an amelanistic guttata/emoryi mix
if you breed a normal emoryi to an amel guttata you will get rootbeers all het amel (creamsicle due to emoryi blood)
so if you bred these rootbeers het amel (creamsicle) together you would get approximately 50% rootbeers het amel (cream)
Approximately 25% would be amel (creamsicle)
and approximately 25% would be simply rootbeers.
the only way to determine which rootbeers would be het amel (cream) would be by breeding them.
Now, I am not sure but I beleive the albino gene in the emoryi works different in the mix then the amel gene in the corn.
This will hopefully be clarified by someoone with a little more knowledge on the subject then me.
Motley is a simple recessive trait.

I hope that helps a little.

and the cheapest Albino Emory i have seen was $300 a hatchling, $550 a pair.

i want one just cuz they look cool, and if i ever get into breeding, they might come in handy.
