That is a better angle for seeing how long that cage is. That center support led me, and some others I suspect, to think that cage was much shorter.

Again, I suggest you buy some cypress mulch and use that on top of the dirt you have in there. It is cheap, easy-to-use, and lightweight. Also, monitors can burrow in it.

Also again, an easy to make hide spot is to place a simple piece of wood on top of the substrate. The monitor will excavate under it and use it as a hide area.

Additional branches will also serve to make your monitor more comfortable. Right now, you have only one and a few more will probably be welcomed by the monitor.
