lighting

the place i got my bp said that you can use regular house hould lights for the heat sorce of the cage is that i good idea or should i get the ones that arebroad spectrum light??

I use regular household lights for my igs... Close enough for them to get the basking heat but yet far enough and behind a cage so they cant get on the bulb and get burned.

An overhead light as a heat source may be ok for raising ambient temperature and can be used for a basking spot. But, in my opinion, the snake would be better off with an under-the-tank heating pad. A lot of pet stores just use overhead lighting, but they aren't hoping to keep the animal longterm. For better husbandry of your snake, get a UTH. Check out Big Apple Herpetological on the web. They aren't very expensive.
