Looks to me like a nerodia of some sort.....(formerly natrix) possibly a hypo form of the sipeodon....but that my guess....

no books to help here....more fun this way

Nerodia harteri. The subspecies is a bit more difficult. I'm going to go with my gut and say paucimaculata but I can't tell the two subs apart without seeing the venter.

I would really like to see that species in the wild.

I don't remember the scientific name, but I'll guess the Brazos Watersnake.

It is a Brazos Watersnake (Nerodia harteri harteri).

Easy, I caught it in the Brazos River, not the Concho/Colorado drainage.
