Possibly cracked shell

beefisgoodyum Oct 24, 2004 07:07 PM

My RES managed to crawl out of its tank one day and ended up dropping about three feet to the ground (commercial carpet). I was lucky enough to find it, however the underside of its shell felt strange. When I pressed into it gently, I felt it give at the natural crease in the middle. Do you think my RES fractured its shell. If so, what should I do?

I would take it to the vet. Even if it isn't a fractured shell, it might have some internal damage from such a long fall.

I couldn't say but It doesn't sound like a fracture.. It is possible, usually when they crack it's from the outside, but a vet trip sounds best. In the case of a shell fracture the usaul treatment is a watertight patch so if the crack is not visible i'm not sure what would be done. (any cracks on the shell will heal but turtles have so metabolisms so they also heal slow)
