Hi,
I've been a member of these forums for many years but this will be my first post on the Erycine forum (due, in no small way, to the fact that I have never kept an Erycine - until now...).
Anyway, here are some photos of a young San Gabriel Mountains Rosy Boa that I recently acquired, one of only a handful in Canada:

This picture was taken as soon as we got home; she is still a little camera-shy...

She's getting a little more comfortable...

Hmmm, didn't take her too long to model for me... Look at that pose

Here she is after consuming her second f/t pink mouse since being in my care. I am feeding her single small prey items in order to prevent any so-called "regurgitation syndrome" that this genus is apparently sometimes prone to.
She has a warm, dark hide that she utilizes right after a meal where she remains until she begins actively searching her quarters again.

Just a tongue-flick:

Cheers,
Ryan M Bolton

My first post got cut off after the bracket because I wanted to include the fact that there are less than 10 San Gabs in Canada (ie. < 10), but for some reason when I put the number and the "less than" symbol together it cuts off the rest of the post when you submit. Damn HTML code! I wonder why it does that...

Nice San Gabe...

Here are some reasons to like rosy boas:
1) They don't defecate as frequently as kings/milks/etc.
2) They don't dart off (quickly) when placed on the ground for a picture.
3) Their cage setup is about as easy as it gets.
4) Their husbandry is straightforward.
5) Personal - it is interesting to hike the habitat and see where these things exist, even when you don't see them.. which is most of the time for me lol.
6) Their is alot of natural variation in among the different locales.
7) They are usually extremely docile.

Mark, Are the boas in the San Gabriel's Really that orange? Desert side or southern side should I look for boa's like the ones pictured here? Any help I appreciate it! Thanks, jd

Not all w/c San Gabriel boas are so light, but captive breeding has focused greatly on the lightest animals, so that many babies being offered are very nice.

These boas are very hard to find in the wild in my opinion, but I haven't tried all that hard either. I enjoy the hike, but since captive-bred babies are available, I have never made a concentrated effort to learn the science on finding these guys.

Go up Hwy 39 and look for rosy habitat. It can occur quite high up in these mtns, higher than any other Calif mtns that I can think of.
