Statute banning reptiles - how to get it changed?

dangerously Oct 24, 2004 08:36 PM

Does anyone have any info on where to start to get a county statute banning ALL pythons and boas changed?

Where can I get relevant information on this? I'll need information from professionals stating that certian species are not harmful or are very low risk, etc. Does anyone have this infomration or know where I can get it?

Under the current ban even a Children's Python is illegal!

Here is something that should come in handy. It is a national statistical list of dog bite injuries and the high number of occurances. It doesn't contain anything showing reptiles, but its statistics are rather handy to have to show that dogs are a larger danger then reptiles. http://www.dogbitelaw.com/

I'd start a petition to show how many people actually keep or would like to retain their right to keep reptiles. Also you should look for information on sites about the temperments of certain species and try to get the ban amended to state what types are banned so that you still have the option of keeping the least harmful species.

Exactly. Two counties have what effectively amounts to a total ban on pythons/boas, one county has nothing on the books.

RE: Petition - a proper petition includes voter information. Nobody will sign it for fear of retribution. I would NOT.

RE: Dog Bite statistics - common sence is NEVE part of the issue.

This topic is a very important one. I do not have an answer but I am gathering data so I can make a website about what I call "The War on Pets".

Any input is appreciated.
