Brooks not putting on bulk?

Joeycoco98 Oct 24, 2004 09:28 PM

My Florida King has not put on the bulk that I see other Florda kings with. She is 2000 female with a good appetite. Around how old before she starts to fill out?

Thanks in advance,
Miller

Help us out-How big is she and how much does she weigh? Not all florida kings are "bulky" particularly females. A reasonably large sized female might be 4 feet long and weigh 700-800g and be a lean healthy reproductive female. Then there are some big animals like the 2x het female Brandon Osborne has, easily mistaken for a tree limb. Its a big mix of genes and feeding and age and reproductive status and other factors I can't think of. Also don't always assume bigger is better especially in captivity, bulk can be a symptom of over feeding.

She is almost 5 ft. (rough estimate) I have nevered weighed her but I bought a scale so I will try. I am feeding her about 2 mice once a week sometimes 3. I will attach a pic taken a few months ago.

she's 1160 grams on empty and thin. She hasn't bulked back up to her normal size after laying 44 eggs this year. Just that many eggs alone from one female gives you an idea of her size.

Big Whitie just weighed in at a healthy 1400 grams. She too is getting a little thin in her old age.

that is an awesome animal. It does not look like mine will get anywhere near that big.

Brandon who is big whiteys mate next year. Chris

Chris, she's going to be bred to the same mate she's had since 99. Both of these kings turned 10 years old this summer and it may be time to retire Big Whitie. Her production was way down this year, but I consider 111 babies in her breeding career to be a job well done. I'm going to play it by ear for the next season and see what happens.

ok ,i was thinking that the white body brooks has potential in several projects such as white side or snow etc...or just bring back whitey...L8r .Chris

it doesn't stop with Big Whitie. I've got a pair that will go next year, as well as holding back the few offspring that were produced this year. As I said, production was way down, so I have to start planning. Here's a female that will be ready next year.....and this pic was taken at 18 months.
