When I bought my Pixie Frog, he was the size of a quarter...now he is the size of my fist.
And I dont ever recall him shedding...none of my frogs.
Am I missing something?

pixie frogs shead but when they do they eat the skin and they often shead in the night

Can someone else shed some light on this?
This is the first time I have ever heard that frogs...specifically Pixie Frogs shedding.

I replied below but if you want more info, do a search. There are a ton of posts where people thought their frogs were dying when in fact they were just shedding.

Frogs shed fairly often. They eat their skin. If you see your frog looking very "straightened out" with legs extended while opening and closing its mouth and eyes, then it is shedding. The frog will undulate its body and use its limbs to scrape off skin which is then swallowed.

I'm amazed...I have been keeping all kinds of frogs and toads since I was a kid...( except tree frogs, and dart frogs, )
I have never seen them shed, or even exhibit the behavior described here.I have learned something new today.
Of course now you all have me worried that my frogs have'nt shed!
Do frogs get moody, or lazy like snakes do when they shed?

pixiefrog Oct 26, 2004 07:00 AM

they dont eat becuse they eat there skin

snakeguy88 Oct 27, 2004 11:33 AM

Not much difference in a pyxie frog being normal or lazy...they still just sit around the whole time. I don't see any real change in demeanor due to shedding like some snakes exhibit.
