My first milksnake!

Antegy Oct 25, 2004 12:36 AM

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to share a pic of my first milksnake!

He's a pueblan milk - almost 11", and about 8 grams. I was told that he is an "apricot" pueblan - though I have to be honest, I can't see the difference between the regular and apricots... what gives?

Thanks for looking!

Great looking snake. I love the color of pueblans have heard very nervous and hide more than most milks. which is why I never got one but color wise great snake. Do you find the above to be true?

Of course, it has only been a day now, but my first impression is that he is very skiddish and not fond of being handled. But then, my burmese python was the same way when it was very young, and so was my mexican black kingsnake, and they are both much better now (especially my burm - he's incredibly mild mannered now).

So I expect that my new pueblan may also eventually calm down. We'll see - I'm hoping for the best here.

Who knows he might wind up being the tamest snake there is. thats some contrast in size a pueblan and a burmese.

I know it seems drastic - that is, the size difference between my burm and my milksnake. But there's just something that I love about having four very unique, very different snakes!

I'm a big proponent of people being individuals, unique and special in thier own right. So I guess I probably project that onto my pets.

Works for me.

Hi. I have 5 snakes. 2 of them corns. I also have a tangerine dream honduran. He was very squirmy when I got him as a baby. After a year he has calmed down with handling. I was going to get a pueblan at first but they were so crazy with handling. They are very pretty though!
I think the 'apricots' are more orangy then a 'normal' pueblan but not sure. Does yours hide 24/7 like my honduran does?
Enjoy!

Since I have only had him a couple of days now it's still too soon for me to get an idea about his disposition. But so far, yes, he has only been hiding; and is extremely skiddish about being handled.

Then again, he's been sitting calmly in my left hand during the whole time it has taken me to type this... and let me tell you - it takes a while to type with just one hand!

So - maybe there is hope...

I have 2 apricot pueblans. Yes as youngsters, they are very nervous and all over the place. My snakes are both very young. I find the more I handle them, the more they calm down. The female is wonderful, she wraps around my fingers and wont move. Very calm! The male does the same, but takes a little more time before he chills. I think the pueblan temperments are outstanding. Some of my favorites!
