BULLFROGS, ANYONE!?? A Concerned PetOwner

turtlesong Oct 25, 2004 02:35 AM

Just wonder about this creature. For a novice, it makes a good pet. See one I hav growing considerably. But I'm quite lame at cleaning up, and get tired of going to the pet store to pick up a lousy dozen crikets or so, crickets he eats in a matter of seconds.

What about thes creatures, though? Anyone else have them as pets? They quite fascinate me, these animals. I love them even more than my turtles, but that's another story. What's their state of existence now?

I come from the midWest and here there are barely any bullfrogs. MAybe som leopard frogs and a few BF's at the golf course, but nothing more. You must realize that now I'm in Taiwan and they've got these creatures by the heaps. I saw a giant male sitting in a park pond, must've been feeding on the myriads of fish. BUt I fear for them here, and at my caring skills. Room is very mimimal here, so I often just want to split nd head back home. But it's a longhaul, and I fear for taking such a long trip.

What should I do?

I had a bullfrog a few years ago. he was a pretty cool pet, but it was always a big effort to get him to eat. He would completely go nuts if someone walked by his tank, and go right into flight mode, and would not eat that way. you had to sneak the crickets into the tank, sneak away, and watch him eat frrom a distance.
We ended up donating him to a nearby nature center, where he lives in a sheltered pond. It was already a bullfrog area anyway, and he came from the same stock, although they usually don't recommend re-releasing an amphibian that has been in captivity, this place is an isolated environment.
They are cool frogs, but to me they take up a lot of space and need a huge tank which they can jump around in. For a beginner, I owuld suggest a snammer leopard frog or green frog, since they need less room.
