Does anyone here keep/breed true fire skinks (Riopa/Mochlus/Lygosoma fernandi)?
I have recently acquired what I beleive are a true pair. I realise that they like to burrow. I have an empty tank until crickets go in, and then the skinks appear from nowhere! Once they've taken a couple each, they disappear again...
I don't mind not seeing them much, and want them to continue to behave naturally, but am thinking of switching to a very shallow substrate, with a couple of soil filled hide boxes, maybe accessed via tunnel like pipes. Otherwise, how will I find eggs/check on the skinks if I haven't seen them for a while?
Has anyone tried this or anything similar? Also, anyone have first hand experience of males fighting? I'd ideally like to keep a small mixed sex group in a relatively large viv.
Cheers,
Mark.
