wont eat for 2 weeks

blackheart17 Oct 25, 2004 10:02 AM

My 1 year old dragon has decided not to eat for the past 2 weeks. It all started about 4 months ago when he wouldn't eat crickets anymore, so i've just been feeding him superworms and different types of worms. I always keep fresh veggies and this dry dragon food available for him but he's never eaten any of that. I've tried these dragon "bits" which is a gel cube thingie and he won't even try them. So he only eats worms. And now for the past 2 weeks or so he won't even eat his worms. He just looks at them and nothing happens. I don't know what else to try. I've tried canned crickets and hoppers and stuff, i've tried even giving him pinkie mice, dry dragon food, moist food, i've tried everything i can think of. Please help us so i'm not dragonless! (his cage is fine, temp. is great and nothing like that changed) HELP ME PLEASE

I've had a terrible experience with superworms.

When Hades had just turned a year old I gave him a superworm and he got really sick. Almost like the shell was cutting his insides. I for sure thought he was going to die. So I held him for about 4 hours then put him in his terrarium and left the light on all night. He had been having little seizure type things from it. I woke up at about 5 in the morning and I went to check on him. He was sitting there on top of his coconut basking like a champ. Stopped shaking and everything. That day when I gave him his fluker medicine he ate it like no tomorrow.

After 3 days he was eating his salad greens again.

Now it could be that your bearded has decided to put itself through brumation or maybe it got impacted from superworms. I'd stop giving him/her superworms and see if that helps.

Also if it hasn't eaten good chance is its losing vitamins and nutrients it needs. So go get this Fluker Reptaid medicine it comes in powdered form with a syringe, mixing cup and spoon. Give it to him and see if that helps.

well one thing is have a fecal check for parasites.
loss of appitite is often the first sign of a sick dragon.
parasites will do it.

the next thing is in my exp. and from what I hear supers while not as bad as meal worms are not so good for our bd's

they seem to get "Hooked" on them. and they can be hard to digest.

so #1 thing is a vet check.

Adult dragons tend to get lazy and the dont want to have to chase crickets if its not necessary. a diet of superworms for an adult dragon should be fine.

At that age and at this time of year dragons start to get into the brumating mood. basically they stop eating and start sleeping. keep an eye on your dragon. if he starts loosing weight then there is reason to worry.
