1086i Oct 25, 2004 10:36 AM

I had a lateralis major lay a clutch of 9 eggs back on 2/15/2004...had the first one hatch about a month ago...i am now up to 4 hatchlings....they are hatching about 1 every week...i've never had chams hatch out like this...it's always been with a couple days and the entire clutch is hatched...anyone else had a similiar experience? just curious

Last summer, I had a clutch of lateralis lateralis hatch out (nine eggs) all within 2 days of each other, seemed a pretty "normal" cham egg hatching. Those were unexpected CH's of a WC mom. I currently have some CBB eggs from CH parents (again, lats lats, not majors) and the first clutch nearest to "maturity" started hatching on 9/14/04 (~6 months into incubation). Three babies emerged of 11 eggs: one didn't make it out of its egg fully, another failed to ever eat despite numerous and varied offerings, and the third is absolutely thriving, he/she is a beast of an eater! It is very interesting to note that these three eggs started hatching within 24 hrs of me adding a slight amount of water to the vermiculite (by weight my container seemed a bit dry). The remaining eggs are humming away, vascularized, seem good, are growing, and I expect them to hatch any time. However, I have a huge clutch of Panthers right now that are just shy of selling age so I am really hoping the Panthers move before the rest of the Carpets emerge (needless to say I haven't added anymore water to the egg container!) I also have another CBB clutch of lat lats that is getting close to 6 months and another clutch of Panthers eggs getting mighty big so its going to be a busy, expensive winter feeding these hungry mouths! I will try to post pics of the lat hatchlings, they are pretty neat and even for CBB, the lat babies are much more shy and timid than my CBB Panthers, its quite a noticeable difference in attitude between the species.

The clutch of Furcifer major I had hatch about 8 weeks ago all hatched within a day of each other.
The diapuase method I use produced a heavy male clutch. 4 males 2 females.

I have had similar hatchings with a few different species from time to time. I am not sure what makes them hatch like that but as long as they are healthy they can take as long as they want to hatch in my eyes.

BTW is this the female you got from me?
