Please Help: Cage Temperatures for Corns

photo36 Oct 25, 2004 10:43 AM

I cannot get a straight answer about the proper cage temperature for corns. Corn Manual says 70-88 degrees with a basking area of 95. Breeders at the Tampa show said that anything above 85 degrees will kill the corn snake. Please give me your advice. My corn and I will greatly appreciate it. Jack Mc/ Central Florida

I think your corn manual was made for a more tropica l corn snake lol .

I dont keep or never have kept them but i do know that there natural range/climates would not be that hot. If you think of it they are pretty much a snake that just a heat pad can substain IMO with out the need for a high heat area. I would venture to think that low end temps of 75 and hot side of maybe 85 would be wellsuficiant to maintain a healthy corn. i would have to agree that a heat as hot as your book says would surely bake the brains of the corn causing brain damage and neurological disorders these are just My thoughts maybe a corn person is lurking in the forums ....

I have quite a lot of corns, and not one of them will go anywhere near their hot spot if it's above 85 degrees.
