My first post. About crickets.

Roger Van Couwen Oct 25, 2004 11:06 AM

Hi All,

I have a 2 month old Ctenosaurus pectinata. I'm not used to having very delicate carnivorous lizards. Last night I watched one of the 1/4" crickets work hard prying at what looked exactly like my Cten's toe skin. The cricket finally pried loose a tiny piece of dried chopped collard.

But now I'm worried. Have any of you had cricket chew off the ends of your lizard's toes?

Thank you in advance,

Roger

Crickets can be downright nasty sometimes. If hungry (and sometimes not) they will eat just about anything and everything. If your cham isn't finishing up the crickets in 10 min or so, I'd switch to cup feeding. Really hard to catch those crickets once they're in there. Your lizard will/can be bit by them either while sleeping or awake. It can lead to infection in some cases. I've had crickets attack and kill one of my friend's praying mantis.

and to add to that post, if there are loose ones in the cage be sure to leave a piece of carrot or something for the crix to feed on so they don't resort to your herp
