PIXIE FROG MOSTLY AQUATIC FROG??

JadeFox Oct 25, 2004 01:19 PM

I put mine in a 30 gallon turtle tank-probably equal to a 50 gallon fish tank-since I noticed it never jumps. Mostly in the water 90% of the time, I reduced the land space from 50% to about 35-40% land and the rest water. She's having a ball in there. Is this normal for pixie frogs? Lots of swimming room for sure and she plays in the water most of the time and even loves the waterfall to fall on her back. she just acts silly all the time in the water. Not much on the land. Is this okay for a pixie frog?

I noticed when given the extra room and the divided tank, the frogs utilize more of the space, soak more often, and mine even fed better. He was in a 75 gallon long, 40% land tank. Don't want to sound stupid for applying emotions to herps, but he seemed to enjoy it more than his other set ups.

The pixie at work only uses the water area in the tank (and he has been there for 8 years as an adult).

it's about a 60/40 split for my frog with 60 being amount of time in the water bowl.

That's reassuring-thanks. she plays in the water mostly and I can tell is having a very good time. Not much on the land. She's having a good time now.

I noticed my outdoor bullfrogs in the pond mostly. soaking all the time. I'm hoping next spring they will breed so I can let all the baby frogs go in the lake I live close to so I can hear glorious bullfrogs all the time. I love the sound of bullfrogs. I would really love hundreds of them in the lake.

I am putting them indoors for the winter though. which they will hate. once accustomed to the outdoor pond, there's no turning back

If there are not already bullfrogs in the lake I would not release them there. Actually, I wouldn't release them there either way. In many states, that would actually be illegal.
