Breeding question

jcmonitor Oct 25, 2004 02:51 PM

I have a 1254 gram male pastel NERD line and a 2600 gram normal female. He has plugs, she has palpitated for follicles. They have been cooling these last few weeks and off feed.

So I put them together the first time last Monday. Watched two days nothing happened. Took the male out waited till the weekend put him in again today no interest.

My question is why?

I have the Breeding Ball Pythons dvd and I have used the recommended enticements, a little misting, removing him from her a few more days, putting him with a seasoned breeder male, and checking for plugs again. Still no response.

I don't think its her either because when I introduce him she lifts her end straight up like she is waiting. He just slithers up along side her then heads for her hide and stays there all night.

Now I see everyone else's posts and it seems like a few minutes or a night and that's it a first copulation is observed.
Ideas as to why my boy seems so uninterested?
Anything else I can do besides keep taking him out then putting back in a few days later?

Just wondering, if he is one of "those" reluctant males I guess there is little I can do but, he really shouldn't be so timid I should think.

Just keep trying. Try female to males cage. Mine have been locking up about a half hour after introduction, and if it goes more than 24 hours I remove the female and wait a couple of days. I've been breeding one female for about 6 weeks now, and some others I wont even try until Febuary, cuz pastel male is too young right now.

you also saw then that after male combat alot of males will show more intrest.....

combat him........(no other male to spar with?....shake him up a bit and push him around......DO NOT HURT HIM....... just kick his butt a little.......trust me..it works )

......also...scratch his back with fingernails.......

.....

and as Chad says...keep trying........it's early......breeding "season" actually didn't start yet.....

yes...I know..they'll breed all year......

I have bred a couple so far...most do not care yet....

colder....wait till Thanksgiving........

1st: A little "Old Crow" in the water dish...Boone's Farm works too, but you'll have to deal with...oh, never mind...

2nd: A little Barry White in the CD player...I suggest "Lets get it on", but any Barry will do.

3rd: Throw a little cash around the enclosure, mostly 20s, but higher if needed.....

4th: Put the back seat down in your Datsun B-510, and cover it with a nice blanket....

Oh, wait...I think I may be confusing my first succesful snake breeding with my first successful human breeding. Never mind. Seriously though, its still way early. I'm in the mountains of SW Virginia, and my first clutch of the year usually hatches in mid May, and I haven't even begun introductions yet. As it cools down outside, it will happen. Continue reducing temps, especially night time temps. Reduce photperiod. Pick a night when a cool rain is moving through. Open the window, repeat until successful. I'm going to put males in with females in a couple of weeks...still pouring in rats at the moment. Don't be concerned until about mid to late december....good luck
