Crofab: Research Paper

Solaris16 Oct 25, 2004 03:45 PM

Hello,

I am required to complete a 1000 word research paper for my grade 12 chemistry course. The purpose of this paper is to investigate current chemical research (within the last ten years)and discuss the implications in the world of chemistry.

Although the research should have preferably been completed in Canada, I am looking for any links that will provide me with information about the development of Crofab (which I hope has been on the market for less than ten years..) that covers the following sub-topics:

-How is CroFab better than the previously distributed antivenin?

-How is it manufactured/who developed it?

-In comparison to the previously distributed antivenin, what are the benefits of CroFab for the Canadian population?

-How does an antivenin work to isolate the proteins found in venoms?

Any link including any information along these lines would be GREATLY appreciated, as this essay is due this Thursday :S

Thanks!

Wendy

Hi Wendy:

Wow..what a topic..1000 words will barely get you started.

One thing I'll say to start..you might have received a faster response if you posted this on the Crotalid page and not the Elapid page since CroFab is used for Crotalid bites only.

A good place to start is contacting the manufacturer

http://www.fougera.com/ They also have the prescribing info where you can get tons of info.

My second place to go is contact Jim or Kris of the Kentucky reptile zoo. Awesomely nice people that provide venom for the production of CroFab.

My last thought is contact the Arizona poison control center but please use the non-emergency number. They were involved is the CroFab development process in conjunction with Dr. Findlay Russell of the School of Pharmacy.

Good Luck,

Thanks!!

Those links will be a huge help I posted this question here as opposed to the Crotalid forum because this one looked to be more active.

Thanks again!
