Treatment ideas for tail neglect?

grundor Oct 25, 2004 03:50 PM

I recently rescued a hardwicki uro from a scary pet shop. She is 10in long and has only one spine on her entire tail. The remainder is superficially bumpy, but smooth compared to the tail on my 5in juvie mali. In between her tail segments are scattered lumps of what appears to be callouses or skin nodules. She is currently in quarentine pending a vet visit, but is there anything that can or should be done in the mean time?

I have no idea what could be done for her except making her comfortable.

You should take pictures of her tail now and report the scary pet shop to the police, news or something that will take action against
them.

By having evidence of how you got her it should help to close the place down while management gets re-arranged.

i cannot say anything for sure without pictures but it could be pieces of stuck shed or it could be tail rot since he is missing his spines. i am hesitant to recommend treatments because stuck sheds require soaking but tail rot requires a complete absense of water. maybe someone will answer with more experience or you can look up tail rot and see maybe if that is what your uro has. sorry i am not more helpful

if this message appears twice, sorry my computer is acting weird

Our Saharan has a few places where he is missing spikes or ones look like they are shedding. We sent pics to DF Farms he recomended Neosporon and Tinactin mixed together. Not sure if yours has the same thing.Contact them or definately get him to a vet.

I've not dealt with tail problems, so I can't help there, but one thing to also keep in mind is that Hardwicki have very tiny spines compared to Malis. Good luck!!
