When you guys say "leaf litter"...

c0ldbl00ded Oct 25, 2004 05:25 PM

are you guy just going into a nearby forest and collecting leaves? Are any leaves O.K. to use? Should they be washed in hot water first? How long will these dead leaves last in an enclosure?

I have a 7 month old Sav... will leaves be good?

Mike

I use oak leaves, they seem to hold up the best and break down to the right consistancy. others turn to mush and get pretty gross. I tried to wash mine in water once or twice to try to kill the bugs but it is more of a pain than it is worth. it is very messy and you loose lots of the finer stuff, most of the bugs die off pretty quick anyway. I would guess dirt would be best for a sav but i could be wrong. you could always put a pile of leaves over the dirt in a corner so it has something to forage in.
