partial tail loss question

momtowildones Oct 25, 2004 05:40 PM

I came home from the store to find little droplets of blood all over the paper towel and one of my juvies with the end of his tail gone. I can't find the part of the tail so could the other juvie have bitten it off? The were both temp sexed for female and they have been together for a couple of months with no problems. What should I do? It's tail isn't bleeding anymore. Do I need to worry? I know that leopards regenerate their tails and it seems fine otherwise. Should I put anything on its tail like neosporin? Thanks for the help!!!

It was most likely the other leo, keep a close eye on them and if you see any signs of aggression seperate them immediately.

In my experience these wounds heal quickly and efficiently on their own. If they are housed on sand you may want to move them to something more sterile like paper towels, for awhile. Check the injured leo for any other scratches.

If you are worried, seperate the injured leo, keep her on paper towels and apply neosporin or betadine to her tail to help it heal.

Good luck!

I would seperate them if you can, and give your little one extra vitamins and calcium, when they lose there tails they lose nutrition and fat stored there. It might not have been intentional the other one could have just thought it was a tasty looking crick. .. But other than that it should be just fine. Good luck!

I would sudjest dabing a tiny bit of neosporin on it, to help it heal better
