Recommended UTH?

leomomdiana Oct 25, 2004 06:07 PM

I have a 55 gal. with sand as substrate. I'm having problems keeping the humid hide warm. It's right above the UTH, but I'm thinking that maybe it's not strong enough. I have it stuck underneath the tank, and it ranges from 90-95 degrees on the surface of the sand. The humid hide I have is just a Gladware container, upside down, with the lid as the bottom. I have peat moss inside. Is there anything I can do to make it warm in there? Would heat tape work? Thanks.

First, what size of UTH do you have and what brand? Also mabye the peat moss is two damp. and the whole cage shouldnt be 90-95.

Also im not trying to start a whole big arguement, but you might want to consider to not use sand. I've heard of tons of cases of, "oh my gecko is just fine on sand" and the next thing you know they are asking about impaction and stuff. You might not see it in his stools, but that doesnt mean its not building up and soon it will impact your gecko in a year or so. So im just asking you, IS IT WORTH IT?

It's an ExoTerra, 11x17, 25 watt. It's only covering a little more than 1/3 of the tank, so no the whole tank is not 90-95. I was just wondering if there were better ones out there. Thanks.

zoomeds makes some goods one, that waht i use on both of my tanks, i think they make one for that size. But i think 25 watts is ALOT!!!! Mine are only 8 and 11 (i think) and they heat a lot. In my opinion 90-95 is a lot and seeing as how you use sand which holds heat good, it might be burning them.
