After 2 years of waiting, I finally got my beardie, and now I am worried out of my mind! Some feedback please. More..

Okay, I got Tequila on Sunday. I have read every care sheet on beardies there is, and I waited to make sure I could handle the responsibility. I just have a few questions about things, like how long will it be before she calms down? She is two months old, and she seemed really calm when I picked her out. she still is most of the time, but sometimes when i walk in the room she totally freaks. I am afraid that she is going to hurt herself one of these times. My fiance doesn't seem to scare her as much. What can I do to limit the stress on her? I havn't tried to pick her up at all, and she seems to be okay with us touching her tail. My fiance said that he petted her head and she was fine with it. I am just afraid that she will get overstressed. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

She should have a hide spot. In the wild she'd probably find some sort of shelter.

When I got Hades he did the exact same thing. Only when my brother walked in the room he did the running thing. Maybe give Teq. some time to adjust to her new home.

You can always buy black construction paper and put it around the sides of her terrarium and leave a spot open so you can see in and watch her.

I will give her a hide box, she actually found her own in her basking branch, but it is really not big enough for her. I had a towel up on the front of her tank, I put it back up, but she has gotten more at ease with us already. She only hides now when we move too fast or there is too much going on. Well, thanks so much for your help.

It would be best not to try and hold the dragon for a week or two. Though she doesn't move when touched now, she may simply be too scared to move. As for a hide, using just a small box with a hole cut into it large enough for the dragon to get into, would serve as a hide box till you can get something more sturdy.

I do not recommend giving a young dragon a hidebox ever. Young dragons that are under the stress of a change can retreat to a hidebox and not spend enough time basking and eating. you want her to learn to feel safe in the new environment, not hide from you. I have had many reports of young dragons that are given the opportunity to hide will continue to hide until they are weak. Some also create behavioral pattern of hiding that they keep their whole lives. I do not allow any dragons under 9 months old to hide.
I would not pick her up for a few days, and try to keep things calm. You should not avoid her though. Feel confident touching her in her tank occasionally and trying to and feed her. The sooner she gets over her fear the healthier she will be.

Okay, this is why I asked on here. I have read conflicting things on caresheets, and now I have gotten two different answers on here. I guess I will not give her a hide box, she actually aready found a spot under her basking branch to hide. I discovered this after looking in her tank today and having a heart attack, because I could not see her anywhere. Should I get a new basking branch? She still came out to bask. Thanks for your help.
