Interesting thought...

I find it interesting that this is the second snake I have found in the same exact location with this problem. I found a gophersnake not 2 days before I found the Great Basin in the same spot. They all den there together. And teh Gophersnake was also having the same shedding problems. It was much easier to help that one though. lol

Did you say in an earlier post that there were five baby great basins together at this time of year? If so, do you know if they are siblings, or are they all coming in to den up?

Are you having the same drought there that is hitting the rest of the west? That might have something to do with the shed problems???

I would doubt they are all siblings. This IS a den site. There are about 30 adults at least there, most of which I have noted to be female. And they all have thier babies at this densite or the one nearby. I know of two in walking distance, so they go to one or the other to have thier babies and Den up.
There was 5 babies out this day and 3 adults I belive. Then I went just before this cold weather hit us and saw 3 babies and 4 adults out. I love this den.

It hasnt been too extrememly dry here. Especially not at that area since a man made stream runs through teh area constantly. They run the water through for a week. Then stop it for a week. They do if for thier cattle I would guess. Many animals here. I have seen Coyote, Antelope, Badger, Jackrabbit, fox, birds of prey, 3 species snakes, and 5 species lizards all in this same area. It's great habitat for everything. So I am not sure why they are seeming so dehydrated all the sudden. Maybe I just happened to find the 2 that were having problems? lol
There are so many reptiles in the area.
