I wonder if all fasciata tend to get very dark with age?

I'll be in Raliegh, NC for a few days in early June. what direction shall I go to find, photo, (but not harass, disturb or collect), Nerodia?

I'm in eastern NC. I personally come across watersnakes all of the time. I've got a little area I herp at all the time, and among the snakes I see the most, Nerodia is second only to Coluber.

It seems to me, most water snake species get darker as they get older. The exception are captive specimens. Many captives I have kept from neonates tend to retain better coloration. But most of the WC adults I find with the exception of a few are fairly dark. Some are almost indistiguishable from a distance from cottonmouths they are so dark. Andy
